Trip to both New York/Connecticut and Boston in same trip via train and car

Because I have new found ancestors to research, I am trying to figure out a really good way to visit Sarah's family and Greg and Mary Jo in the same trip....and do a bit of genealogical research on the same trip.....so here are some of my thoughts on this:

Drive to upstate New York near Newburgh.  This trip is doable in a day.  The area of interest to my research is Walkill which is northwest of Newburgh and Goshen which is southwest of Newburgh.  The scale on this map is such that these places are quite close together in reality.

The trip didn't turn out as originally planned, so I am deleting the rest of the post and telling the story after the fact as it really did happen!  The main event for this trip was Sarah and Rudy's birthdays.  I always go to Cambridge for Rudy's birthday in March.  However, this year Sarah did not take the week off for his birthday because now she sees him all of the time.  But she did have a weekend off on the weekend before her own birthday by chance and she cleared the Tuesday after the weekend so that she also had her birthday off as well.  So the long weekend was a celebration of both birthdays.

I had planned to drive to Harrisburg and NY and do a few days of research early in the week before the trip to Boston.  But at the last minute, Greg had to come to Huntington on that Thursday for a court appointment.  He is in the process of evicting a tenant in his apartment.  So.....I changed my plans and drove with Greg to Harrisburg.  We had a great time chatting in the car and doing the Hot Wire that he and Mary Jo always do....it was up in the air .....Carlisle or Harrisburg?  Until the last minute....when we decided on Harrisburg.  Greg had to get up really early to get back in time to catch a 3PM plane to visit Hannah's family in Wilmington.  And my train tickets were for later.

The hotel was only minutes from the train station as it turned out!  And the nice thing was that there was a restaurant in the building so we didn't have to go back out.  I would stay there again....except for the fact that it was not on the main I-81
